Heartbreak as college golfer murdered on a golf course in Iowa
We’ve hesitated posting this news around as it’s such a heartbreaking story but for those who may not already know, a college golfer was murdered in a golf course in Iowa earlier this week.
Celia Barquín Arozamena, 22, from Spain attended Iowa State University and was murdered by a homeless man while playing golf on her own early on Monday morning.
Here is the link to the story in the New York Times, an accumulation of articles via the Des Moines Register and Dylan Dethier’s pieces over at Golf.com.
Some reactions from the golf world:
Heartbroken over what happened to #CeliaBarquinArozamena I had the pleasure of meeting her and I know she was a special person. Sending my thoughts and prayers to her family and loved ones in this difficult time

I’ve always grown up thinking a golf course is the safest place you can be. Where is safe these days?? https://t.co/lInzGMMcow

I still can’t get over what happened to Celia. If there was a safe place, a golf course has always felt like one of them. This was just before sunrise here this morning. Fleeting moment. Fleeting life. #ripCelia pic.twitter.com/bsnhrPcFEa
