Bob Hawke and Wally Lewis to tee off at the Jack Newton Celebrity Classic
Celebrities and golfers arrive in the Hunter Valley for a great cause, and a great party.
Over 200 golfers will descend on the Cypress Lakes Resort in the Hunter Valley on Monday to tee off in the 2013 Jack Newton Celebrity Classic.
One of my highlights of 2012 was being lucky enough to at the Jack Newton Celebrity Classic (on behalf of Inside Golf), and to say it’s a great event is an understatement. Jack throws a seriously good party and rubbing shoulders on the golf course with the likes of Nathan Green and Sarah Kemp is something I won’t ever forget.
Not to mention being in attendance to hear Bob Hawke sing all five verses of Waltzing Matilda.
The tournament itself has raised over 3.5 million dollars, is in its 35th year and brings together a great mix of golfers to raise money for diabetes education and prevention, and for Jack Newton Junior Golf. Some of the stars from Jack’s junior golf foundation will be playing again this year including Sarah Kemp, Jake Higginbottom and 2012 classic winner Brendan Smith.
Celebrities playing this year include NRL great Wally Lewis, Ch 9 House Husbands cast mates Gary Sweet, Gyton Grantley and Rhys Muldoon, Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson, Phil Gould, comedian Tommy Dean and Wendell Sailor will all be playing again this year, as will former Prime Minister and Patron of the event Bob Hawke.
There will be regular updates on The Jack Newton Celebrity Classic facebook page, where you can grab a slice of the history and keep up to date with the latest news or you can follow us on twitter @JackNewtonCC.
