Here are the rules of golf relating to hitting the golf ball while standing out of bounds.
We had a few queries after we shared the video of Padraig Harrington taking his stance out of bounds to play his golf ball at The Open.
A few people weren’t aware that it is within the rules of golf to stand on the wrong side of the out of bounds line or fence to play your golf ball. Perhaps the best video we’ve come across that explains the out of bounds rules the best is this one from Golf Monthly.
Just remember that you can move any loose impediments lying out of bounds to improve your stance but you can’t get relief because your standing on an immovable obstruction.
