One man has just played every golf course in Scotland
It took two decades but one golfer has made history by playing every golf course in Scotland.
Phil Booth, a 69-year-old retired paediatrician from Aberdeen, has completed a remarkable golfing journey by playing on every registered golf course in Scotland.
His adventure began in the early 1970s with discounted student rounds in Edinburgh and officially started in 2004, inspired by a holiday suggestion from his wife, Anne.
Mr Booth, originally from Stockton-on-Tees, said it was his wife Anne’s idea to play all of Scotland’s courses following a holiday to Arisaig in September 2004.
He told BBC Scotland News: “She came with me to the nine-hole course at Traigh and we walked up the hill to be greeted with this amazing view of Rum, Eigg and Mull.
“She said we never would have seen that if I had not been golfing. We basically used it as an excuse to see parts of Scotland we might have otherwise missed.
Over two decades, Booth played 572 courses, including famous ones like St Andrews and Carnoustie, as well as lesser-known golf courses spread across some challenging terrains.]
My question I; could this be done in Australia?
At around 1200 golf courses spread across a much bigger country, I’d guess it would take at least two decades to complete. Maybe more.
The closest effort I can recall is Matt Cleary’s attempt to play a stack of golf courses as he drove around the perimeter of Australia.
