GOLF IN JAPAN / Our Hokkaido golf experience in pictures
We were lucky enough to recently spend five days in Hokkaido to check out what this part of Japan can offer the golf-loving Australian traveler.
At the invitation of Hokkaido Golf Tourism, and alongside Australia’s AYM Golf Tours, I recently travelled to Hokkaido – Japan’s most northern prefecture and second largest island. Home to the famous city of Sapporo and to over 150 golf courses.
Many of you may already know this part of Japan as it’s a popular place for Australians to go skiing in the Japan winter. But what you may not know is that it’s a fabulous place to visit in the summer with stacks of golf courses, many within an hour’s drive of each other, that can cater to all skill levels and budgets.
We will go into a little more detail on what a golf trip to Hokkaido might look like but for now, we’ll just share with you some of the photos we took on the trip to give you a small taste.
We saw one of the most beautiful golf courses we’ve laid eyes on, played one of the best golf courses in Japan where Brad Kennedy recently won on the Japan Golf Tour and soaked in (quite literally) Japan’s wonderfully unique culture including incredible seafood, sushi, tourist attractions and onsen (hot spring).
We also stumbled upon Sapporo’s annual beer festival! Kanpai!
Sheri Yu at AYM Tours runs a superb luxury escorted golf tour to Hokkaido if you’re interested. I plugged it a few weeks ago and can now confidently, and highly recommend what you’ll experience.
