VIDEO Hannah Green wins thrilling LPGA Portland Classic

Three shots down with four holes to play, Hannah Green edged in front on the final green to win her second LPGA tournament.

Just months after winning the Women’s PGA Championship, Australian Hannah Green has won her second LPGA Tour event with a one-stroke victory at the Cambia Portland Classic.

Green has now become the ninth Australian to win multiple LPGA Tour events.

Green looked set for a big weekend after firing rounds of 65-63 on Thursday and Friday to take a five-stroke lead going into the weekend. However, a disappointing 1-over par 73 left her three shots behind teenage prodigy Yealimi Noh.

Noh only qualified for the tournament on Monday and looked on track to secure her first victory as a pro when she took a three-stroke lead with four holes to play.

The 18-year-old turned her back on a college career by turning pro early in the year and looked shaky as Green made birdies at the 15th and 17th holes.

The dramatic finish saw Noh overshoot the green from a fairway bunker. When Noh couldn’t get up-and-down for par, Green made yet another clutch putt to save par and claim victory.

“I felt like I was reading greens really well all day but towards the end, I wasn’t sure if I was over-reading them, so I had my caddie. I told him what point I was looking at, and I asked whether, what his opinion was and whether he thinks it was too much or too less,” Green said.

“I think just hearing that confirmation to say, yeah, that’s the right line, is just what I needed. Especially on the putt on 17.”
