Australia’s top-100 golf courses for 2020 as ranked by Golf Australia Magazine

Australia has a wealth of wonderful, accessible golf courses and Golf Australia Magazine has attempted to rank them once again.

Barwon Heads Golf Course on the Bellarine Peninsula, Victoria.

If you missed the December 2019 issue of Golf Australia Magazine you can now check out the list of Australia’s top-100 golf courses for 2020 on their website.

Royal Melbourne West comes out on top closely followed by Cape Wickham and Barnbougle Dunes.

Closing out the top-5 are Barnbougle Lost Farm and the newly redesigned Peninsula Kingswood Country Club North Course.

Golf course rankings are always controversial and I’ve no doubt the responses will be as mixed per usual.

Disclaimer: I am one of the course ranking panel members for this list, and I can say all 35 men and women on the course ranking panel do their absolute best to ensure their reviewing process is as objective as possible. They’re an extremely knowledgeable bunch of people who have an incredible knowledge of golf course design both here and across the world.

Agreement on such a list is an impossible task for something so subjective, but what Brendan James and the team at Golf Australia have come up with is a fabulous list of Australian golf courses.

I’d argue you shouldn’t get too hung up on whether one course should be a little higher. Think of them in loose groups of 20-50.

If a course is in the top-20, it’s very, very good. Top-50 and it’s excellent.

If a golf course is on this list at all and you haven’t played it before, you should.
