Watch Cam Smith warm up by chipping over a fence

Ahead of last week’s season-ending (at least for the individual format) LIV Golf Chicago tournament, Australia’s Cam Smith chose to do a bit of chipping practice from the heavy rough beside the putting green.

Often so prevalent on American golf course, it’s a wise choice to get familiar with how the golf ball will react coming out of the heavy stuff so close to the green. And while Smith won’t get to show off his true short game skills under these conditions, he’s still a master of the short game as you can see from the video below.

According to the social media post, Smith nailed 13 of 15 chips from outside the fence – including one hole out. The other two? One hit the fence and another one hit the flagpole. But the catch off of the flagpole and subsequent celebration was worth it.

Smith finished the LIV golf Chicago event in 52nd place (out of 54) with Jon Rahm winning the trophy and the season-long individual award. Whatever that means, I can’t find details or a leaderboard about that.
