Check out this brutally difficult, amazing chip shot from the PGA Tour Americas
A lie not uncommonly seen on the golf courses of North America was the scene of a remarkable chip shot on the PGA Tour Americas over the weekend.
Faced with a deep, stupid lie just off of the green at the difficult par 3, 11th at TPC Toronto North Course, golfer Eddy Lai was working hard to earn himself a card on the next tour up from the PGA Tour Americas at the Fortinet Cup Championship.
The PGA Tour Amercas posted a clip of Lai’s chip shot that you have to see to believe.
In pouring rain and facing almost 90 degrees from the flagstick, Lai hacks it out and pops it out to the fringe of the green. The golf ball then trickles away down the slope and ends up in the hole for an incredibly, unlikely birdie.
As someone who can’t stand the sight of all this heavy rough around the green, we would much prefer to have seen Lai have a few different options with more short grass to play with. Still, it’s hard to deny what a simply astonishing golf shot it was.
Unfortunately, Lai didn’t earn himself a card on the Korn Ferry Tour with his 23rd-place finish well outside of where he needed to finish.
