Wade Ormsby commutes to the European Tour from Adelaide
Wade Ormsby is one of the few Australians playing golf on the European Tour, and he’s doing it all while living in Adelaide.
Wade Ormsby has had a great 2014. The South Australian almost grabbed victory at the Australian PGA championship as part of the dramatic 3-way playoff last week, and his form in Europe has been very good.
In 28 events on the European Tour in 2014, Ormsby had four top-10 finishes including two in his last three starts, finished high enough in the rankings for a spot in the final tournament of the year and has won himself over €500,000 in prize money.
What we didn’t know is he had done it all while living in Adelaide.
Wayne Philips and David Wildy chatted to Ormsby on Radio 5AA earlier this week, where he not only chatted more about the dramatic Australian PGA playoff but revealed what is surely one of the longest commutes going around.
“I commute out of here with that Emirates flight on a Sunday, it’s perfect.” Ormsby said. “I’ve got my name all over that flight just about every three or four weeks. It makes it easier with that direct flight to Dubai.”
“So I just do four to six-week stints over there. I do that three or four times a year.”
Perfect? Easier? Impressive stuff.
With very few Australians now ploughing their trade on the European Tour, we’ll be keeping an even closer eye on Ormsby next year who looks to be on the rise.
