President’s Cup!
The President’s Cup starts again today and let’s hope we don’t get those silly sportsmanlike draws that occurred the last time the event was held outside of the States. It was only yesterday a friend and I agreed as we scattered balls to all parts of the driving range that Nick O’Hern must start against Tiger with his recent matchplay form against him. And wouldn’t you know it, but he’s paired with K.J. Choi to go up against Charles Howell (do I need to put III after it?) and the number one golfer himself.
This was contrary to what most of the American media were saying wanting a match up with Ernie or maybe Canadian Mike Weir as he is playing in front of his home crowd. But what would they know? I’d imagine the best golf talk in the world comes out of the mouth’s of hacks trying to get the ball to go straight on the course or on the driving range. It certainly wouldn’t come out of the mouth of Johnny Miller too often.
In addition, there’s 4 Aussies in the 12 man line up this year. Geoff Ogilvy and Adam Scott are paired together for the Thursday foursomes, Appleby and O’Hern are the other two in other pairings.
