PRESIDENTS CUP VIDEO Internationals face up hill battle, 4-1 down after day one

It’s a familiar Presidents Cup story. A powerful US Team has taken a huge lead after day one of the 2022 Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow in Charlotte.

Once again the powerful US Team has stormed to a commanding 4-1 lead through the opening day of the Presidents Cup.

The tone of the day was set during the first match. The Internationals most experienced, highest ranked pairing of Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama were blown away 6&5 by Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay. It was the largest win in a Presidents Cup Foursomes match in more than ten years.

Tom Kim and K.H. Lee lost 2 and 1, Sungjae Im and  Corey Conners lost 2 and 1, and Taylor Pendrith and Mito Pereira bogeyed their last hole to miss out on any points, going down by one hole.

The one shining light for the Internationals was the performance of Cam Davis and Si Woo Kim. The young pairing, both ranked outside the world’s top-60 golfers, stormed home to beat the world number one Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns.

The inexperienced pairing found themselves 3-down through seven holes, the Internationals looking down the barrel of a 5 – 0 thrashing. However, some exceptional iron pay from Davis combined with good putting from Kim saw the Internationals take advantage of a late stumble by Americans to run out 2&1 victors.
