Karrie Webb fires near perfect round to share lead at US Women’s Open: video
Karrie Webb didn’t miss a fairway and hit 17 of 18 greens in regulation to lead the 2015 US Women’s Open.
Despite recently being usurped as Australia’s highest ranked golfer, Karrie Webb isn’t done with winning big golf tournaments just yet.
Karrie Webb fired a majestic 4-under par 66 overnight to be in a tie for the lead midway through a rain-interrupted first round of the 2015 US Women’s Open.
Webb’s bogey-free rounds included four birdies, hitting all 14 of 14 fairways and a remarkable 17 of 18 greens in regulation – with her only blemish coming at the 18th hole. Webb was good enough to get up and down for par though and is in perfect position for a shot at her third US Open title.
Only half the field managed to complete their opening rounds as rain forced players off the golf course at the Lancaster Country Club.
Defending champion Michelle Wie was one player who did manage to complete her round, shooting a disappointing 2-over-par 72 and world number two Lydia Ko posted an even par round before the rain descended.
