Jason Day wears high-tops and jogging pants for his opening round at The Open
Jason Day created a stir with his choice of outfit on day one of The Open at Royal Birkdale.
Australian Jason Day strode has sent golf traditionalists into a spin with his choice of outfits on day one of The Open at Royal Birkdale. Day strode to the first tee in a pair of Nike jogging pants and Air Jordan 1 Golf Shoes; clothes probably better suited to a day on the basketball court.
Day isn’t the first to sport this look on the golf course though. Rickie Fowler has been wearing Puma high-top golf shoes for some time and fellow Nike sponsored player Rory McIlroy has also donned the jogging pants and high-tops in golf tournaments.
But the sight of an Australian golfer in this sort of garb had a few people a little upset.
Aussie contingent just gone from 11 to 10. We’re not claiming him dressed like that!

To be fair, Day wasn’t the only one to send golf traditionalists into a spin on day one. Jordan Spieth spent his round chewing mint gum and his good mate Justin Thomas sported a shirt, tie and cardigan in a throwback to the golf fashion of yesteryear.
