Dustin Johnson, four Australians in field for LIV Golf breakaway tournament in London

The Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational series has finally announced the field for the first tournament to be held in London next week.

Dustin Johnson who has previously pledged his loyalty to the US PGA Tour is a surprise inclusion in the 54-hole LIV Golf tournament at the Centurian Club in London next week.

Johnson is joined by a number of other big names from yesteryear including Ian Poulter, Martin Kaymer Lee Westwood, and Sergio Garcia who controversially announced his desire to escape the USA PGA Tour on course a few weeks ago.

Four Australians have also been named in the field; Matt Jones, Wade Ormsby, and exciting youngsters Jed Morgan and Blake Windred.

It now remains to be seen whether Johnson, Garcia and co. will be banned for joining the LIV Golf tour and defying the PGA Tour, or they’ve perhaps just been granted permission for a one-off event.

Golf writer Jason Sobel shared the field list on Twitter this morning as well as securing a comment from Johnson’s manager which indicates this may be the last we see of Johnson on the PGA Tour:

Just received this statement from David Winkle, agent for Dustin Johnson: “Dustin has been contemplating the opportunity off-and-on for the past couple of years. Ultimately, he decided it was in his and his family’s best interest to pursue it.”

“Dustin has never had any issue with the PGA TOUR and is grateful for all it has given him, but in the end, felt this was too compelling to pass up.”
