2024 PRESIDENTS CUP Formats, teams, schedule, Australian TV times
The 2024 Presidents Cup will be played at Royal Montreal in Canada this week. Here is what you need to know.
A number of highly regarding LIV Golfers won’t be playing this week for the 15th edition of the Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal. Featuring two teams still intent on walking away with the trophy, we wonder if the International team have any chance of winning, especially without Cam Smith?
It’s still head-to-head team golf, usually better than individual professional golf tournaments, so we’re still very excited about watching this one.
A team featuring Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele is always going to be a short-price favourite to win again ($1.40). But there is some hope for the International team.
Adam Scott has come good at the end of the year and arrives as not just the elder statesman of the team but perhaps the most in-form golfer right now. Jason Day has had a great return to form in 2o24 and Sungjae Im and Si Woo Kim have proven to be tough to beat in this team format.
Expect Tom Kim and Min Woo Lee to fire up the Canadian crowd. Both excel when the heat is on and it wouldn’t surprise us to see them paired together at some stage.
But Hideki Matsuyama is the key to the International team’s hopes of winning. The highest-ranked player on the team (7th OWGR) won the St.Jude Championship last month and finished 3rd at the Olympics to secure a bronze medal. If he’s injury-free, the Internationals are a chance.
LOCATION
The 2024 Presidents Cup is being played at Royal Montral golf Club in Canda – a 14-hour time difference to the east coast of Australia.
TEAMS
A team of golfers from the US will go head-to-head with a team of International golfers in a series of paired, and single matches.
The Internationals are made up of the best golfers from all across the world (except Europe and USA) and this year include players from just five countries; Australia, South Africa, Canada, South Korea, and Japan.

FORMAT
The Presidents Cup competition consists of 30 matches (match play) each worth one point each:
• Thursday – 5 Foursomes matches
• Friday – 5 Four-Ball matches
• Saturday morning – 4 Foursomes matches
• Saturday afternoon – 4 Four-Ball matches
• Sunday – 12 Singles matches
Foursomes is also known as alternate shot where a team of two golfers alternatively play one golf ball to contribute to the team score.
Four-ball is also known as the best ball format. Each golfer plays their own ball and the best score from each team counts towards the team score.
In case of a tie: There are no playoffs for each match with each side receiving a half-point if a match is tied after 18 holes. If the match is deadlocked at the end of Singles play, the competition will be deemed a tie and the teams will share the Presidents Cup.

Day 3 looks like the best viewing times in Australia with the first matches going out at around 9pm AEST.
