Ripper GC claimed the 2024 LIV Golf Team Championship with a clutch performance at Maridoe Golf Club in Dallas, securing a $20.5 million payday to close the season. The all-Australian team, led by captain Cameron Smith, finished 11-under to beat 4Aces GC and Iron Heads GC by three shots in a tense final round.
All four scores counted in the decisive round, with Lucas Herbert’s late surge of birdies playing a key role in their triumph.
Herbert, competing in his first LIV Team Championship, earned praise from Smith for his resilience after recovering from a difficult start.
“We call him ‘The Gladiator’ because it’s just his personality. He always seems to come through,” said Smith.
Herbert birdied four of his final five holes, including three consecutive birdies, helping the Rippers maintain their lead. Smith also delivered, sealing the victory with a precise tee shot on the 18th hole, while Marc Leishman and Matt Jones added crucial rounds, contributing to the team’s overall performance.
The Rippers’ win marked their third team victory of the season, including memorable wins in Adelaide and Singapore.
Reflecting on the team’s success, Smith had high praise for his Australian teammates.
“Leish and Herby really showed what type of players they are coming down the stretch. They dig deep, and it’s nice to know that guys will do that for your team.”
