WATCH Australian Travis Smyth make a hole-in-one at 2023 Open Championship
The brand new par-3 17th hole is a devilish little hole but Travis Smyth played the perfect golf shot for a hole-in-one.
At just 134-yards, the 17th hole at Royal Liverpool should be a simple short iron for the best golfers in the world. But when you added in some ferocious bunkers, a tiny green and the ever-present winds that whip over Royal Liverpool, it becomes a difficult task to land the ball on the green.
Trav Smyth had no such issues during his second round of The 2023 Open Championship.
A “chippy 9-iron” was the absolute perfect club. Two bounces and in.
“It was amazing. A bittersweet actually. I had a shock of the day before, made double bogey, and I was just really happy I hit a good shot because I was just so disappointed from the day before. Yeah, huge surprise that it went in the hole,” Smyth said after the round.
“It was just the perfect distance, perfect wind and the club. Everything just kind of came together, and it was a moment I’ll never forget.”
