Viktor Hovland wins FedExCup with victory at TOUR Championship
Norway’s Viktor Hovland has gone back-to-back to claim the PGA Tour’s richest prize at the TOUR Championship.
Viktor Hovland has won the TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club by a whopping five strokes to claim the lucrative, season-ending FedExCup Trophy.
Starting the day with a six-shot advantage, Hovland didn’t let up despite a strong challenge from Xander Schauffele.
Despite Schauffele’s earnest effort to close the gap, drawing within three strokes with seven holes remaining, the 25-year-old Norwegian maintained his composure. A series of three well-executed birdies in the closing stages of his round solidified Hovland’s triumph, marking his second consecutive win in as many weeks.
Scottie Scheffler, the highest-ranked contender entering the tournament, had another tough week at East Lake. Entering with a 10-under par starting position, reflecting his accumulation of the most FedEx Cup points over the season, Scheffler struggled on the greens, finishing at 11-under par and sharing sixth place in the final standings.
Wyndham Clark concluded his impressive season on a high note, securing a commendable third-place finish at East Lake. Pre-tournament favourite Rory McIlroy battled a niggling back injury to finish in fourth place, one stroke ahead of Patrick Cantlay who rounded out the top-5.
Australia’s sole golfer to secure a place in the final 30-man field, Jason Day finished in 28th place at 3-over par.
