THREE ACES Check out 3 holes-in-one at the island green 17th hole at The PLAYERS Championship

The par-3 17th at TPC Sawgrass was created for entertainment – water bogeys and holes-in-one.

At just 132 yards, the artificially made island green at the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass makes for entertaining golf. If the wind whips up a little, even the best in the world have a difficult time of it.

Among plenty of shots that found the water, three golfers carded an ace at The PLAYERS Championship this year – Hayden Buckley got one on Thursday, Aaron Rai got one on Saturday, and Alex Smalley got one on Sunday.

It’s hugely entertaining – the crowds and the golfers go nuts.

And before you delve into these videos, Rod Morri’s piece over at Golf Australia is worth a read – Seventeen at Sawgrass proves entertaining doesn’t mean interesting.

The only thing one can say in defence of Sawgrass’ 17th is that it was built specifically to test this world class field.

Ironically, that fact is also partly responsible for the hole’s second crime: it’s influence beyond Ponte Vedra Beach.

Because the hole attracts so much attention many golfers make the mistake of thinking it must be an example of ‘good’, hence multiple copies have been built around the world.
