Remembering how Justin Rose won the 2013 US Open: video
Before running head-long into the 2014 US Open, I thought it might be good to remind ourselves of last year’s US Open – in particular the final round.
Justin Rose became the first Englishman to win a major since Nick Faldo when he won the 2013 US Open. He edged out Jason Day and Phil Mickelson by two shots at Merion in what was a brutal final day. Watching the video highlights courtesy of ESPN, I realised I’d forgotten several key events from the round.
I’d forgotten:
- How pumped I was after Day knocked his shot from the rough close on the 10th. I really thought he was going to win it then.
- How I then thought it was Mickelson’s tournament after holing out from almost the same spot at Day hit his shot.
- How many of Phil’s putt skirted the edge of the hole.
- Mickelson’s wedge shot from on the green at the 15th.
I certainly hadn’t forgotten Rose’s approach shot to the 18th. Sensational.
