Matsuyama holes out for eagle; tied for the lead at Memorial Tournament
A hole-out eagle was the highlight of the day at the Memorial Tournament that featured a few shanks and a rocky shot from Rickie Fowler.
Japan’s Hideki Matusyama had quite the finish to his opening round at the Memorial Tournament.
After giving two shots back in the early part of his back nine, Matsuyama went on a tear and nailed four consecutive birdies before this at the 17th hole at Muirfield. After a 337-yd drive he knocked in the 137-yard wedge for eagle.
Matsuyama’s round wasn’t all pretty though. This shank happened earlier in the round…

And he wasn’t the only one to find trouble out on the course during the opening round. Justin Rose also took part in the Shank festivities…

And Rickie Fowler was forced to jump on a few rocks to play this shot. And he was very lucky it didn’t go really bad after he got a lucky bounce off a tree.
Fix your divot Hideki!!
