Mathew Goggin wins first Web.com golf tournament of the year: video highlights

Mathew Goggin has broken a near four-year drought to win again on the Web.com Tour.

Mathew Goggin has got off to a great start in 2015 by winning the opening Web.com golf tournament of the year. The four-stroke victory at the 2015 Panama Claro Championship is Goggin’s first since 2011 and will go a long way to trying to win back his spot on the PGA Tour next year.

“It just reminds you that you can still play a bit,” Goggin said. “I played so poorly last year and you start wondering, at 40, what do I need to change or what do I need to do more of?”

Goggin clearly likes the hot and steamy conditions in Panama. The Tasmanian also won at the Panama Golf Club in 2011, finished second in 2013 and he took to Twitter to cheekily express his desire to see a Presidents Cup hosted there sometime.

Up until now, Goggin has probably been considered an under-performer on the golf course, who has been let down by getting a little too hot under the collar on occasions. It only seemed like yesterday when he was within touching distance of the Claret Jug when he played in the final group of the 2009 Open Championship with Tom Watson.

Let’s hope Goggin is not done with yet and we’ll see him back on the big stage soon.
