Late stumble costs Karrie Webb Scottish Open crown: video highlights
South Korea’s Mi Hyang Lee won the Ladies Scottish Open overnight after a late stumble from Australia’s Karrie Webb.
Karrie Webb was overhaul on the closing holes bu South Korea’s My Hyang Lee to fall agonisingly short of a Ladies Scottish Open victory at Dundonald Links.
Webb looked like grabbing her first tournament victory since 2014 after holing a chip shot for eagle at the 14th hole. But a missed par putt at the par-3 16th, and a double-bogey at the 17th after finding a fairway bunker and hopes of victory had all but gone.
A birdie at the final hole restored some pride but Webb finished in a tie for second place, one show behind Lee.
Webb was forced to hit out backwards from the bunker and after finding a second bunker the 42-year-old carded a double-bogey and was left lamenting a poor drive.
“I bent down, picked my tee up. I thought I hit a perfect drive there,” Webb said after her round. “When I stood up, I went to tell Jonny that I absolutely knotted my 3-wood exactly how I wanted and he said it kicked into the bunker.”
“I have no idea how it did that.”
