Green and Skarpnord complete fairytale week at 2015 Victorian Open

If you think you may have had a good week, wait ’til you hear the story from Richard Green and Marianne Skarpnord.

Richard Green has won the Oates Men’s Victorian Open, defeating Australian Masters champion Nick Cullen in a playoff at Thirteenth Beach Golf Club; and his fiance, Norwegian Marianne Skarpnord won the women’s event.

The unique format of the Oates Victorian Open saw both the men’s and women’s tournament played concurrently with the final pairings from each event interleaved on the final day.

Skarpnord completed her three-stroke victory over Victorian amateur Su-An Oh in the group behind Green. However Green took a while longer to secure his victory, needing two extra hole to beat Nick Cullen and claim the title.

The victories for Green and Skarpnord completed what can only be described as a fairytale week for the couple. They were only recently engaged and moved into a new house near Thirteenth Beach earlier in the week; a double-bed is the only piece of furniture in the house.

Then came Green’s spectacular hole-in-one albatross that made headlines all around the world. And now the pair of them grab a trophy each to adorn the bed-head.
