It was a slow, long day at Royal Portrush that sees American JB Holmes leading Ireland’s Shane Lowry but a stroke at the end of day one of the 2019 Open Championship.

As the wind and rain swept across the north coast of Northern Ireland, plenty of big names tumbled down the leaderboard including Tiger Woods and pre-tournament favourite Rory McIlroy who stumbled out of the blocks with a quadruple-bogey on the opening hole.

BRITISH OPEN / Francesco Molinari wins, final round video highlights

Francesco Molinari made history overnight and became the first-ever Italian golfer to win a major when he claimed The 2018 Open Championship.

Playing alongside Tiger Woods who briefly held the lead during the final round, Molinari was incredible poised around the greens and carded an impressive bogey-free 2-under par 69 to win The Claret Jug by two strokes from Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy, Kevin Kisner and Xander Schauffele.
