Cameron Davis and Shelly Shin win 2015 Australian Amateur
After eight rounds across six days, the 2015 Australian Amateur golf championship came to a dramatic conclusion at the Australian GC yesterday.
Cameron Davis and Shelly Shin were crowned the 201 Australian Amateur golf champions winning their 36-hole final matches at The Australian Golf Club yesterday.
In hot, oppressive conditions, Shin beat Australian Golf club member Lizzie Elmassian 8&7. The men’s final was much closer and after an extraordinary 36-holes, an extra hole was needed to decide a winner.
New Zealand’s Tylor Hodge led Australian Cameron Davis for most of the first 18 holes, with only Davis drawing the match all square on the 18th hole. The afternoon round was a tight affair with neither player managing more than a one hole margin, before Davis prevailed on the 37th hole.
I contributed a piece with Mark Hayes over at Golf Australia’s website on Cameron Davis’ victory. Hayes also reports on the intriguing women’s final won by Shelly Shin.
Keep an eye out for both of them in upcoming professional golf tournaments. With this win, Shin has earned herself a spot in the Women’s Australian Open at Royal Melbourne in a few weeks, and Davis will be teeing it up at the Australian Open in late November at The Australian GC.
