Cam Davis Triumphs at Rocket Mortgage Classic: video highlights

Heartbreak for Akshay Bhatia has led to an emotional win for Australian Cam Davis at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Cam Davis clinched his second PGA Tour title at the Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club.

Davis finished at 18-under-par, securing a one-stroke victory over Akshay Bhatia, who missed a pivotal short putt on the final hole. Davis, who previously won this event in 2021, credited recent hypnotherapy sessions for helping him improve his mental game and manage the pressure.

“I saw a little bit of a spark last week but nothing to show this coming,” Davis said after the round.

“I started working with a hypno-therapist a couple of weeks ago just to take another angle in trying to get myself sorted out. From where I was a couple weeks ago until today, just a completely different person.”

The final round saw Davis recover from an initial bogey with three birdies over the next six holes. A subsequent bogey on the 14th hole posed a challenge after Davis’ second shot to the par-5 saw his golf ball roll off the green into the hazard.

But Davis’s resilience shone through with a birdie on the 17th. His performance under pressure was pivotal, particularly as Bhatia’s missed putt on the 18th green ensured Davis’s triumph.

“This is crazy. I wouldn’t wish what happened to Akshay on anyone,” and emotional Davis said.

“But I’ve done a lot of grinding to get myself out of a hole and to all of a sudden do that, it’s pretty good.”

This victory marks a significant milestone for Davis, reinforcing his status on the PGA Tour the first time he’s even finished inside the top-10 of a PGA Tour event since October.

Fellow Australian Min Woo Lee finished just a shot behind Davis in a share of second place at 9-under par.
