Australian Golf Digest’s 2014 list of Australia’s top-100 golf courses

Royal Melbourne West named Australia’s best golf course by Australian Golf Digest magazine.

Australian Golf Digest  magazine’s March 2014 issue has just hit the stands and it includes their most recent list of Australia’s top-100 golf courses. And it may come as no surprise that there is plenty of debate.

A large panel of golf course experts ranked and rated golf courses they had played over the past two years according to design and course condition, with extra points given to courses that have that special something.

Australian Golf Digest 2014 Top-10 Australian golf courses

#1 Royal Melbourne West
#2 Kingston Heath
#3 Ellerston
#4 Barnbougle Dunes
#5 New South Wales
#6 Barnbougle Lost Farm
#7 Royal Melbourne East
#8 The National Moonah
#9 Lake Karrinyup
#10 The National Old

As to be expected with a list as subjective as this one and there are some striking differences between this list and the one Golf Australia magazine released late last year.

For example, Kingston Heath was ranked 2nd by Australian Golf Digest, (4th by GA), the private Packer-owned Ellerston golf course is the third best golf course (6th GA) and Bonnie Doon Golf Club doesn’t feature at all in the Australian Golf Digest list where Golf Australia had it ranked in 38th place.

Perhaps I’ll save all of my comments on the two lists for another post.

In the meantime, grab yourself a copy of the March 2014 issue of Australian Golf Digest and draw your own conclusions.
