Allenby clawing for a major

The final major comes our way this week in the form of the PGA Championship. From Australia’s point of view we have 13 golfer’s teeing it up and there’s been a glimmer of good form coming from a few of these guys.

Robert Allenby has taken to the claw putting grip after advice from Vijay Singh supposedly and led to a second place finish at the WGC event last week. He’s 190th in the putting stats this year but was 28th last week at Firestone. He tied for 10th at Hazeltine in 2002 and he’s still such a great iron player that he will threaten this week if the claw grip holds up.

It’ll be nice to see how Brendan Jones and Michael Sim go. Both have had stellar seasons on the Japanese and Nationwide Tour respectively with Jones currently 3rd and Sim leading his tour.. Nathan Green won his first PGA Tour event a few weeks ago but was erratic last week.

Some other fine form has been seen from Mathew Goggin who seems to have played himself into some late season form and Geoff Ogilvy has had some good rounds. Something we haven’t seen from him in many weeks.

You can’t go past Allenby as Australia’s main hope this weekend.

If you’re hard up for something to do….go check out the individual player stats at the PGA Tour website. the breakdown and amount of information is absolutely extraordinary.
