Adam Scott has world number one ranking in his sights again
Nine Aussies are in the field for THE PLAYERS Championship this week. Adam Scott has another shot at the world #1 ranking.
Adam Scott has a great chance of assuming the role as the world’s number one ranked golfer this week at THE PLAYERS Championship. A good performance may be all he needs to usurp Tiger Woods and sit atop of the world golf rankings.
But we’ve been here before.
Scott was within touching distance of the #1 position going into the final round of the Bay Hill Invitational. Leading by three shots going into the final round, a victory would see Scott assume the title as the world’s number one ranked golfer but Scott collapsed to finish two shots behind the winner Matt Every.
A good performance at The Masters would have also seen Scott take over from Woods but a poor week meant Scott had to wait it out a little longer.
Fresh from a break with his best mates in Bermuda, Scott arrives at TPC Sawgrass as a previous winner and with the #1 ranking in his sights again, but he now has some competition.
Henrik Stenson, Bubba Watson and Matt Kuchar are also a chance of taking top spot with good finishes this week. Stenson and Kuchar are previous winners THE PLAYERS Championship and will be confident heading to familiar, successful surroundings.
Eight other Australian golfers join Adam Scott in the field with John Senden and Geoff Ogilvy perhaps the pick of the bunch in terms of form. Jason Day has withdrawn from the event with a persistent thumb injury.
The Australians in the field for THE 2014 PLAYERS Championship: Stuart Appleby, Aaron Baddeley, Steven Bowditch, Greg Chalmers, Matt Jones, Marc Leishman and John Senden, Adam Scott, Geoff Ogilvy.
