Watch Matthew Fitzpatrick hit the flagstick with a ‘too perfect’ golf shot

South Africa’s Erik Van Rooyen ended up winning the Scandanavian Masters last weekend, but this moment was pivotal in deciding the outcome.

Matthew Fitzpatrick looked on track to grab another victory as he found the middle of the 14th fairway at the Hills Golf & Sports Club in Sweden. After a bogey-free round including five birdies everything was looking perfect for a run towards the final stretch of holes when this shot ended up a little too perfect.

Fitzpatrick’s ball hit the flagstick and ricocheted off the green where he would not get up and down for par. Another bogey a couple of holes later and Fitzpatrick finished a single stroke behind Van Rooyen.

There is a bit going on here including some interesting audio the European Tour have kindly highlighted in subtitles.
