Xander Schauffele win 2024 Open Championship: video highlights

From nearly man, to two-time major champion, Xander Schauffele has had a wildly successful 2024.

At the start of 2024, Xander Schauffele was considered one of the best golfers on the planet never to have tasted major golf success. The 30-year-old from California now has two major championship trophies with his name on them after winning The Open Championship at Royal Troon.

A packed leaderboard had fans contemplating a playoff for much of the final day at Royal Troon with a mix of well-known names, and unknowns vying for The Claret Jug.

Scottie Scheffler ultimately came undone with his putter and Shane Lowry missed a prime chance to win a second Open at the more difficult stretch at Royal Troon. And crowd favourite Justin Rose, having earned a spot in the field via qualifying, and the twitchy Billy Horschel couldn’t make enough birdies on the difficult back nine to get close to the Schauffele surge.

For Australian golf fans, it appeared Adam Scott would make a run at a golf tournament that perhaps owes him some luck after the meltdown of 2012. Early birdies saw Scott edge up the leaderboard before the full field had teed off, but a bogey at the fourth and a disastrous double bogey at the 10th, had Aussies heading back under the duvet.
