Sweden win 2008 Women’s World Amateur Team Championship

Sweden Women's golf teamThe 2008 World Amateur Team Championships are currently being played at the Grange and Royal Adelaide Golf Courses in Adelaide. Aussie Golfer has previously posted about this prestigious world amateur golf event and the women’s trophy has just been won by Sweden who have completely blown away their nearest rivals by 12 shots! It’s the second time the Swede’s have won the Espirito Santo Trophy and have never missed out on a Top 10 finish in all 23 events played. For a more detailed report click to access the official Espirito Santo Trophy website.

The equally prestigious men’s event where 72 teams will compete for the Eisenhower Trophy begins this Thursday. The two courses are long, sand belt courses which may suit more of a links style of golfer. Adelaide has had very little rain for years now and the ball will be hard to stop on these greens. The USA have won the event many times and must go in as favourites but with The Netherlands winning last time in South Africa and home course advantage to the Aussies, who knows. There should be some great golf on display by some of the future’s golfing stars.
