Steph Curry shoots opening round 74 in Web.com golf tournament
NBA star Steph Curry has fired a respectable 4-over 74 at the Web.com’s Ellie Mae Classic.
There is some unusual attention on this week’s Web.com Tour (the PGA Tour’s secondary/feeder tour) with NBA star Steph Curry being offered a spot in the field via a sponsors exemption.
The Golden State Warriors point guard has been ranked as the best golfer among the NBA players and Curry is a near-scratch golfer, playing off a handicap of 1.2. If the whole basketball thing hadn’t worked out Curry may have made a run for it in professional golf but he was able to live out part of that parallel life teeing it up in the Ellie Mae Classic at TPC Stonebrae in California.
Curry has a bit of work to do to make the cut, but given his handicap (which is still high compared to what these professional golfers would be playing off) that’s a decent first round score.
