Scottie Scheffler Wins Tour Championship, Australian Adam Scott Finishes Strong
Scottie Scheffler secured the FedEx Cup with a commanding victory at the Tour Championship, while Australian Adam Scott capped off a resurgent season with a strong fourth-place finish at East Lake.
Scottie Scheffler capped off a historic season by winning the PGA Tour’s season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, securing the $25 million FedEx Cup title. Scheffler’s four-stroke victory over Collin Morikawa marks his seventh PGA Tour win of the season, making him the first player since Tiger Woods in 2007 to achieve this feat.
Scheffler started the final round with a five-stroke lead over Morikawa, but his advantage was briefly threatened after consecutive bogeys on the 7th and 8th holes.
However, Scheffler quickly regained control with a series of birdies from the 9th hole onwards, and a decisive eagle on the 15th sealed his win. Scheffler finished the week at 30 under par, highlighting a season that also included wins at the Masters and an Olympic gold medal.
Scheffler acknowledged the mental challenge of maintaining his lead throughout the week, given the handicapped nature of the season-ending event.
“It’s a challenging week, I’ve been leading for a while,” Scheffler said. “So always in the back of your head you know it’s going to come down to this, and you’ve got to have a great week.”
The win solidified Scheffler’s status as the PGA Tour Player of the Year, earning him $62 million in total earnings for the season.
Adam Scott’s Resurgence
Australian veteran Adam Scott also delivered a notable performance, finishing tied for fourth place with Russell Henley and Xander Schauffele. Scott’s final round of 67 marked the end of a strong season resurgence, elevating him back into the world’s top 20 players.
Scott’s season turnaround began with a second-place finish at the Scottish Open in July, followed by consistent results in the FedEx Cup playoffs, including a T10 finish at The Open. His fourth-place finish at East Lake earned him a $4.83 million payday, contributing to a successful close to his season.
Scott praised the world number one, reflecting on Scheffler’s dominanceafter the round.
“I think it’s very hard today for anyone to separate themselves as much as Scottie has,” Scott said. “I don’t think we’ve seen that in a long time.”
