Rory McIlroy tosses 3-iron into water; scuba diver finds it, Trump returns it: video
World #1 Rory McIlroy lost his temper and threw his 3-iron into the water at the WGC Cadillac Championship.
Rory McIlroy returned to the PGA Tour last week and missed the cut, and things are only marginally better at this week’s WGC Cadillac Championship.
McIlroy went for the green in two at the par-5 8th hole at Trump National Doral during his second round, and his ball and club ended up in the water.
McIlroy pulled his golf ball well left of the green and into the water. In frustration, McIlroy then sent the 3-iron to a watery grave.
The world’s number one golfer was asked about the incident after his round.
“Felt good at the time,” McIlroy said. “Look, I just let frustration get the better of me. It was heat of the moment, and I mean, if it had been any other club I probably wouldn’t have but I didn’t need a 3-iron for the rest of the round so I thought, why not?”
No doubt the PGA Tour will have something to say to McIlroy on this matter and issue him with a fine which may answer the question, “why not?”
There has been a lot said about the example that the world’s number one golfer is setting by tossing a golf club. Whatever the discussion, it doesn’t seem to be as jovial as when previous world number one’s hae vented their own form of frustration on the golf course.
Today a scuba diver set about trying to it and it didn’t take him long to emerge with McIlroy’s golf club.
UPDATE: Not one to miss an opportunity, Donald Trump returned the 3-iron to McIlroy on the range.
