Rickie Fowler holes bunker shot for eagle on way to winning in Abu Dhabi: video

Should Rickie Fowler be included in the ‘Big Four’?

Rickie Fowler has made sure his name is thrown into the ‘best golfers in the world’ discussion by beating a world-class field in Abu Dhabi overnight. Fowler, playing in his now trademark high-top golf shoes, holed an incredible bunker shot for eagle on his way to the win with a four round total of 16-under par.

Fowler finished one stroke ahead of Thomas Pieters, with Rory McIlroy and Henrik Stenson a shot further back. World number one Jordan Spieth finished in a tie for fifth place.

The victory has golf experts wondering if Fowler should be added into a “Big Four” group of the best players in the world, which would include Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Jason Day. Fowler tends to disagree suggesting he needs to win a major before he can be placed alongside those other big names in golf.

“The three of them have played amazing. I want to be part of the crew. It would be a pretty good foursome.” Fowler said after his victory. “I mentioned last summer that I thought I was a sneaky fourth. Now I need to take care of a major then maybe I can join that crew.”

Golf, post-Tiger Woods, seems to be going along just fine. Look for those high-top golf shoes at a golf course near you.

  • Great shot! I love the slow-mo breakdown of the shot, but I can’t help but be distracted by his awful white skinny pants. Note to all men out there: please don’t adopt this style.
