Revisiting Stuart Appleby’s famous 59: video

The PGA Tour arrives at The Old White TPC Course for the Greenbrier Classic this week, the scene of Stuart Appleby’s final round 59 to win the tournament in 2010.

This all seems like a long time ago now as Appleby has struggled ever since this history making round. Since this victory in early August in 2010, Appleby has only recorded one Top-10 finish and made the cut in just half his starts on the PGA Tour.

One would expect The Greenbrier Classic to bring back good memories, and on the back of a good finish at the Travellers Championship a couple of weeks perhaps Appleby has found some form to be in contention on Sunday.

  • Nice post Michael, forgot all about that amazing round. 28 for the front 9…it’s kinda got a nice ring to it! hmm..28
How focused was he on those putts, he looked like a robot.
If we look back at last Wednesday’s post by you on “Psychology of golf: Why you miss those birdie putts” I believe Stuart in this case is deep in the zone and an example of treating birdies or pars with exactly the same intensity. Less emotion is best, just follow your putting routine regardless of the situation… repeat, repeat.

  • Amazing round of golf, we can only hope Stuart gets back to those days again. Not sure what has happened to his golf game because he’s too good a player not to be contending more often.

Hopefully playing this week will bring back fond memories for him and energize his golf game.

  • What’s the putter that Apples is using in this vid? Don’t recognise it.
