Ocean Dunes opening on King Island in 2015
There is a lot going on in Tasmanian golf at the moment including two new golf courses being built on King Island.
In addition to the construction of Cape Wickham, another new golf course is also being built on King Island – Ocean Dunes.
The championship golf course on the west coast of King Island is located just 5 minutes from the airport and is the brainchild of designer Graeme Grant and Bernie McMahon. Grant has been in the golf architecture business for over 30 years including 16 years as course superintendent at Kingston Heath.
We’ve got our hands on a few recent photos from Ocean Dunes and the course is looking incredible.
With what looks like two world class golf courses being built on King Island it’s a dream for golfers. Just a 50 minute flight from Melbourne, King Island will be firmly on the radar for Australian golf trips.
In a piece written in Inside Golf, Grant thought the addition of two courses to King Island would make the place a more attracive place for people to come and play golf.
“I asked people in Melbourne what they thought of two golf courses on King Island and everybody said that it will make it more of a destination. So we see it as an advantage to have two really good golf courses down there.”

Ocean Dunes is scheduled for completion by mid-2015.
