Min Woo Lee top Aussie at PGA, Hannah Green’s near miss on LPGA
West Australian Min Woo Lee left Valhalla Golf Club as Australia’s highest finisher at the PGA Championship as Hannah Green came up just short in an epic showdown with world No.1 Nelly Korda at the LPGA’s Mizuho Americas Open.
Lee shot 4-under 67 to end the week at 9-under and in a tie for 26th as American Xander Schauffele claimed his maiden major championship with a record score of 21-under par..
“I feel like I’m slowly becoming a better player,” Lee said post-round.
“Definitely trending in the right direction.”
A wayward tee shot on the 72nd hole would ultimately prove costly for Green, who was seeking to join Hall of Famers Jan Stephenson and Karrie Webb as the only Australians to win three times in a single season on the LPGA Tour.
“To lose to Nelly… it’s sad, but then it’s also Nelly Korda,” Green reflected.
“She’s obviously so dominant right now. To feel like second behind her is quite nice.”
