We dropped the ball (no closer to the hole) a little over the weekend. While selfishly walking the fairways of Barnbougle the final round of the Oates Vic Open at Thirteenth Beach Golf Club was dramatically unfolding. So if you missed it…
Georgia Hall held her nerve to become the first English woman to win the 2016 Oates Vic Open. The 19-year-old managed to hold on to edge out last year’s champion Marianne Skarpnord and Nanna Madsen by one stroke.
Michael Long and Matt Millar couldn’t be separated after 72-holes in the men’s draw sending both into a sudden-death playoff. New Zealand’s Long hooked his second shot into the reeds next to the par-5 18th green (normally the 4th) at Thirteenth Beach beach course and looked dead.
Faced with the ball lying in reeds inches off the ground, Long made a magnificent recovery shot that found the green and led to a birdie. Enough to beat Millar’s par and claim the Oates Vic Open title.
