Jack Nicklaus opens redesigned Australian Golf Club in Sydney
Jack Nicklaus was in Sydney on Friday to open the newly redesigned Australian Golf Club.
The 18-time major winner spent the morning mingling with members and made the announcement that the course would host the 2014 Australian Open.
Nicklaus won the Australian Open on six occasions including three victories at The Australian Golf Club that he helped redesign in the late 1970’s after an approach by the club by the late Kerry Packer.
The most recent changes meant that the golf course was closed for a year while the redesign took place. Members went elsewhere to play golf for 12 months but by all reports, the members sound happy with what they’ve seen so far.
Still, I’m not sure anyone would so anything different with the world’s best ever golfer around.
There is still no official word from Golf Australia on where the 2013 Australian Open will be held although most rumours point towards a return to Royal Sydney.
