Flanagan takes bounce off cameraman to win on Nationwide Tour
Why professional golf is easier than amateur golf.
While the drought continues on the US PGA Tour for Australians, Nick Flanagan won the Nationwide Tour tournament this week in dramatic fashion.
Flanagan eventually beat fellow Australian Cameron Percy in a three hole playoff but Percy can consider himself very unlucky not to have won the tournament in regulation.
Nick Flanagan needed to birdie the final hole to force a playoff but his approach shot sailed the green. It bounced off a TV cameraman’s chest and bounced back onto the green for a birdie attempt. Flanagan made the birdie putt and then beat Percy in three playoff holes.
The victory moves Flanagan well inside the Top-25 positions on the Nationwide Tour needed to gain a PGA Tour card for 2013. While Percy must be wondering if he will ever get a win in the US, he is positioning himself nicely for a promotion back to the big league next year, currently ranked in 6th spot. Alistair Presenll is the other Australia within the Top-25 on the Nationwide Tour for 2012.
For Flanagan though, this was his fourth victory on the Nationwide Tour and they obviously don’t get any less exciting as he tweeted this message and photo the day after his win.
Feel like happy Gilmore driving home. Thank you everyone for the support. Effing legends! Yewwwwww! twitter.com/4flanagan/stat…
