Australia’s 2012/13 summer of golf has begun, get behind it!
Get yourself along to a golf tournament this summer and support Australian golf.
The Australian summer of golf is well and truly under way, and it’s only spring. Last week the PGA Tour of Australasia kicked off again with the South Pacific Open in New Calendonia and this week the tour hits Kalgoorlie for the WA Goldfields PGA Championship.
Minor tournaments they may be, but they’re all part of the Australia’s golf tournament calendar which of course include bigger events such as the Australian Masters, Australian Open and the richest event, the ISPS Handa Perth Invitational which is co-sanctioned by the European Tour.
The Perth International will be held at Lake Karrinyup and starts next week with Charl Schwartzel (world #30), Jason Dufner (10) and Bo Van Pelt (24) in the field. More big names arrive in November for the Australian Masters which sees Ian Poulter (27), Graeme McDowell (18) and Adam Scott (6) playing when the tournament returns to Kingston Heath.
A few weeks later Justin Rose (5), Tom Watson and Adam Scott (6) are all playing the Australian Open at The Lakes in Sydney, and Darren Clarke, John Senden and Greg Norman are all confirmed for the year ending Australian PGA Championship at Palmer Coolum Resort.
What can you do?
The demise of golf on free-to-air television in Australia has brought with it plenty of anger. One of the best ways to show your support for the golf is to get along to these golf tournaments. Chances are, there is a tournament near you before the year is out so pick a tournament, grab a ticket and get along for at least one day of golf.
Watch the golf on TV
The Australian Open will be screened on Channel Seven and the Australian PGA championship from Palmer Coolum Resort will be on Network Ten. Make sure you watch them! And get your friends to watch too.
The Perth Invitational will be shown on FoxSports every afternoon, Thursday to Sunday next week (perfect viewing times AEST might I add), and no doubt the Australian Masters will be shown somewhere too.
Get the app!
The PGA Tour of Australasia has a pretty nice iPhone app which is great for up-to-date scores and news about the events. No word on an Android option as yet but head to m.pgatour.com.au via your phone and will get all the action.
