Australia’s top-100 public access golf courses for 2017: Golf Australia Magazine
Cape Wickham tops the list as Australia’s best public access golf course.
Golf Australia magazine have once again ranked Australia’s top-100 Public Access Courses for the January 2017 issue with four Tasmanian golf courses now sitting on top of the list, with one Victorian golf course making up the top-5.
Cape Wickham on King Island has been ranked by Golf Australia magazine as Australia’s best public access golf course. Few golfers who have seen Cape Wickham leave with anything but glowing remarks about the spectacular golf course and it’s of no surprise to anyone to see if top the rankings.
Barnbougle Dunes and Barnbougle Lost Farm occupy the second and third ranked positions, while King Island’s other newest golf course Ocean Dunes was ranked as Australia’s fourth best public access golf course. St Andrew’s Beach Golf Course on the Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula ranked fifth.
The golf courses were judged by Golf Australia magazine editor Brendan James and 29 other magazine readers who were asked to rank golf courses they had seen in the previous two years factoring in “risk-reward, balance of short and long holes, course condition and bunker presentation, visual appeal, wow-factor and whether there were memorable individual holes that would stay with a player long after the end of a round.”
The “public access” criteria was defined as golf courses offering public tee times over a minimum of four days a week – and excluded any golf courses that required golfers to stay at the resort in order to get a tee time.
The January issue has been in stores since mid/late December so you’d better hurry and grab yourself a copy if you want to check out the full list for yourself. Get down to your local newsagent now.
