Woods wins PLAYERS Championship as Garcia capitulates

Woods wins tournament number four in 2013.

Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia had been feuding for most of the weekend and despite not playing in the same group on Sunday, they looked to be heading for a dramatic finish.

Woods and Garcia were tied at 13-under par for the tournament after an up and down round from both players. The largeyl unknown Swede and equal overnight leader David Lingmerth was doing his best to upset his more fancied rivals and was just a shot behind.

Woods was on the tee at the 18th hole as Garcia capitulated behind him on the infamous, island green 17th hole.

Tied with Woods, Garcia sent two shots short and into the water quickly ending his chances of winning his second PLAYERS Championship.

When Woods made par on the last hole, only unheralded Swede David Lingmerth had  a chance to force a playoff with Woods by making birdie at the last. His difficult birdie putt went well past the hole and Woods  won his second PLAYERS Championship. His last one coming in 2001.

Woods has now won four PGA Tour events this year and it is the quickest he’s reached that tally in any calendar year.

He looks set to grab a major win before the year is out.
