Webb Simpson wins PLAYERS, Justin Thomas new world number 1

Webb Simpson held a seven-stroke lead going into the final round of The PLAYERS Championship and despite a few final round surges from a number of players including Tiger Woods, he cruised to a four-stroke victory.

Simpson set up the win with a sensational 9-under par 63 on Friday (which included a double-bogey), the four-stroke victory saw the 2012 US Open champion win his first golf tournament trophy since October 2013.

Justin Thomas finished in a tie for 11th place, seven shots behind Simpson but it was enough to jump over Dustin Johnson and became the number one ranked golfer in the world.

Thomas becomes the 21st player to become World No.1 since the Ranking started in 1986.

Jason Day and Adam Scott had a good week at TPC Sawgrass.

Jason Day chalked up another top-5 finish and Adam Scott, playing with an old driver and broomstick putter had his best finish in almost 12 months finishing seven shots behind Thomas in 11th place.
