Watch Matt Jones launch his putter into the lake

A good craftsman never blames his tools, but to be sure it’s sometimes best to dispose of them.

Before we start, we should say that Matt Jones wasn’t the only one having a rough time on the diabolically fast greens during the 2022 Arnold Palmer Invitational.

The lightning-quick surfaces meant three-putts were not an uncommon sight at Bay Hill over the weekend.

But Jones decided to take his rage out on his putter after missing a downhill putt at the 11th hole. After tapping in for par, Jones sent the putter flying into the lake next to the green. We’ve yet to find any trackman data for the putter’s trajectory.

Jones finished the tournament in a tie for 52nd place after shooting rounds of 76 and 75 across the weekend.

To give you some idea of how difficult the greens were, Jones finished the event -1.67 in strokes gained putting. The field average across the week? -5.07.
