Cameron Smith’s one-stroke victory at THE PLAYERS Championship over Anirban Lahiri saw the 27-year-old Australian claim the richest first prize in golf.
Smith’s final round was chock full of highlights around the greens. A hot putter yielded 10 birdies, required just 24 putts through his final 18 holes, totalling 101 across all four rounds – a new record for the winner of THE PLAYERS Championship.
However, the victory that earned Smith US$3.6m wasn’t without drama.
Specifically across the closing holes when a leaky driver put Smith into some challenging positions in the trees.
It’s all worth watching (or watching again) – and don’t miss that amazing tee shot to the island green par-3 at TPC Sawgrass.
Despite being Smith’s home golf course in Florida, even he had to concede he wasn’t trying to hit it to the right of the flagstick.
